When I was about 8 or 9 years old, I had a dream to play the saxophone like Lisa Simpson. I saved up all of my birthday money for several years to buy a second hand saxophone (i think my parents also secretly chipped in). I was in love with my shiny and beautiful saxophone. One summer I learneed how to play "Girl from Ipanema" and my cousin and I went busking outside our local train station, playing only that one song. We made FOURTEEN POUNDS!! You can see our old busking sign in my case. Apart from that, the sax didn't get played much, because unfortunately it was way too heavy for me to play properly. I put the sax away for until I was older and it got forgotten about. Over 20 years later, my mum shipped a box of my things to me (from England to Spain) and when I opened the box, to my surprise, my saxophone was in there! I opened it straight away, and had a go at learning her favourite George Michael song, "Careless Whisper". I LOVE how badly I play it. Playing this saxophone transported me back to my Inner Child's fearless enthusiasm. Combining that with my newer mindset of embracing being a beginner, it's been a therapeutic and healing experience to be brand new and awful at something in my 30s. I promise to always let myself be imperfect, to be a beginner at new things, and to not take myself or the journey too seriously. Life is better that way.
