📌Apple's 2020 October event finally showcased the new iPhones with some interesting features and some mixed feelings future insights.
📝Script:
The event started my introducing the homepod mini. After a disappointing tenure of the homepod in the smartspeaker industry, the company thought it should introduce a smaller and more affordable option for the general public.
5G was probably the main selling point of the event. To be clear, it is important to have that feature in your smartphone in 2020, but honestly the coverage for such a network is still underdeveloped in the world. And keep in mind, when you do use your 5G capability, the speed of the internet you're getting is probably as fast as your battery draining. It'll definitely push carriers to start upping their game in this space, so we'll see what the future holds for that.
iPhone 12 was the first one to be revealed. My prediction in the previous video on the apple watch regarding new colors was right, which kinda made my day. You can check that video when it pops up. The new colors are black white red green and blue.
But that's not the major change, look at it, its boxy now. I like it. Its a flashback to the iphone 4 and 5 days. The iPhone 5 was probably my favorite design to this day. With this new design, the team was able to reduce the size and weight of the phone, whilst managing to increase the screen real-estate, which is honestly insane, that's pretty good.
The highlight of the day probably is the A14 bionic chip. The new iphones will be the first ones to pack a 5nm chip inside, we did cover the benefits of this size in the previous video above, but in short, it allows for better performance using smaller space. In fact, it is so powerful that League of Legends finally released a mobile application specifically designed for the new chips performance.
Of course, an iphone event wouldn't be complete without an improvement in the camera department, and there are actual improvements, but not that important to cover, not for me.
Now here comes the mixed feelings part. They're bringing MagSafe to iPhones. Now if you don't remember, before USB-C, macs generally had a MagSafe charging technique. They're bringing this feature in order to make charging more convenient, so it can stick automatically when wirelessly charging, BUT THATS JUST IT, wireless charging. Are you following?
Now that the box is smaller, they can fit 70% more iphones in their inventory, which true it might save us some bucks here and there due to supply chain cost cutting, but is our experience jeopardized? Ill let you answer that in the comment section below. Oh and subscribe to the channel if you havent, itll help the channel grow, really! just do it..
Obviously this new feature comes with new accessories, from covers, attachments and charging stations.
Then they surpirsed us with the iPhone 12 mini, which basically has the exact same features but in a smaller form factor.
This is a side by side comparison with the iPhone 8. This is probably the one I'll buy.
The final product announcement was the iPhone 12 pro and 12 pro MAX. It comes with different exterior material as you can see, pretty premium, Im not sure anyone will notice tho. They come in silver graphite gold and blue.
This is a side by side comparison to the older pro models; it also comes with all the features mentioned before
AND major improvements in the camera department, that I cant honestly explain, you'll have to check that out in a more in depth photography video. BUT it does come with a new LiDar sensor.
You've probably heard of LiDar at some point, its used by autonomous vehicles to navigate the streets and check their surrounding, by measuring the depth of objects with respect to the sensor and drawing a map around it.
Now this is probably the most important part of the video. Stay with me we're almost done.
Combined with the new A14 bionic chip, LiDar improves Augmented Reality capabilities in the pro model iPhones, and they also come in the new iPads. It opens an opportunity for industry disruption.
Things that used to take weeks or months to develop, can now be done in a couple of hours. From designing an office space, to defining employee workflow, this technology, in my opinion is going to change many industries and play a major role in the future.
So what did you think of the iPhone event? I highly recommend you watch it, the video production quality is some of the best I've seen. Let me hear your thoughts down below, if you're new here please subscribe and like the video so that the channel grows and I produce better content. See you in the next one.
