National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day
A message from Dr. Paula Burns, President and CEO of snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara College, for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30. This a day of remembrance and reflection and a time when we stand in solidarity with the survivors of the residential school system, the impact on Indigenous communities, and the hundreds of missing Indigenous children.
We stand with Indigenous communities who are grieving the children found in unmarked graves across the country including those found in English River First Nation, Chooutla Residential School and St. Mary's Residential School. The impact of residential schools is still felt in the present. The impact of residential schools is still felt in the present.
As part of our commitment to truth and reconciliation, the College hosted a series of offerings over the week of September 25, including raising the Musqueam flag on September 27. This further cements our commitment now and towards the future.
Let us reflect, learn, and move forward in partnership with Indigenous communities.
