📌 5 Reasons Your Rotator Cuff Surgery Might Be Canceled (And How to Prevent It!)
🚨 Imagine going through all the prep for shoulder surgery—taking time off work, arranging help, fasting the night before—only to have it canceled at the last minute. It’s frustrating, but it happens more than you think. Here are five common reasons why your surgery might be canceled on the day of the procedure (and how to avoid them!).

Top 5 Reasons for Surgery Cancellation & How to Prevent Them:
✔ High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) – Surgery centers may cancel if your blood pressure is too high. Some anesthesiologists advise skipping BP meds the night before, which can spike readings. Work with your doctor to keep your BP under control.
✔ High Blood Sugar (Diabetes Concerns) – If your glucose is over 200, your surgery may be called off. A1C levels over 7-8 may cancel surgery before it’s even scheduled! Keep your diabetes well-managed to prevent issues.
✔ Eating or Drinking Before Surgery (NPO Rules) – No food, no drinks (not even coffee or gum) after midnight. It’s tough, but breaking this rule increases surgical risks. Follow fasting instructions carefully.
✔ Surgeon or Facility Cancellation – Rare but unavoidable. Illness, emergencies, or scheduling issues may cause last-minute changes. It’s frustrating, but sometimes unavoidable.
✔ GLP-1 Medications (Ozempic, Wegovy, etc.) – These slow gut movement, increasing the risk of anesthesia complications. Some patients must stop them 1 week before surgery. Check with your doctor or surgery center for specific guidelines.

🛑 Bottom Line: Don’t let preventable issues delay your surgery! Work with your primary care doctor, follow fasting guidelines, and check on medication adjustments ahead of time.
