The Kandyan Kandyan Dancers Company presents its first group of students to complete their training and undertake Pa Saraba and Goda Saraba assessments to take part in the inaugural Pahim Path or Kandyan Graduation ceremony.
The Mangalam dance is a vital component of the Sri Lankan Pahim Path ceremony, which is a traditional ritual invoking blessings and auspiciousness. The term "Mangalam '' itself signifies auspiciousness and is performed to invoke blessings for prosperity and well-being. Mangalam dance in the Pahim Path ceremony is a beautiful and spiritually enriching performance that underscores the importance of cultural traditions and the deep-rooted connections between dance, music, and spirituality in Sri Lankan culture.
Choreographed by Prasanna Rupathilaka, renowned Sri Lankan traditional drumming lecturer at University of Visual and Performing Arts in Sri Lanka and accompanying drumming artist Koshan Mapatuna, also a visiting drumming artist at the University of Visual and Performing Arts in Sri Lanka. Bringing Sri Lanka's wide range of dance styles to the prestigious London Logan Hall, the show is brought to you by Kandyan Dance practitioner, choreographer, teacher and author - Miss Dilini Seneviratne.
Kandyan Dancers Co. are also proud to give back to the Sri Lankan community as the show also supported Sri Lanka Cancer Society - Moratuwa Branch who focus on raising awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of regular screenings.
