If you've suffered a loss on your brokerage account, it's unfortunate. But there's good news. You can use the loss to reduce your taxes on future stock market income for 10 years.
This doesn't happen automatically; you need to manage the process yourself and, in the year you earn stock market income, file a 3-NDFL tax return requesting a tax refund against the loss you've already incurred. To file the return, you'll need a 2-NDFL certificate, as well as your broker's tax return for the year you suffered the loss. In this video, we show you how to obtain these certificates.
