I finally got around to playing KH3 recently. Been long enough and I needed the break from Destiny, so I just dove right in. And it was well worth it. The main game left me pretty disappointed in terms of story and gameplay as the combat never really felt like it got interesting because the fights were all just... well, unremarkable, save for the very final boss of the game, but by then the game is over anyway. But I knew there was a whole DLC to get through and I wasn't going to quit despite my underwhelmed feeling, so I pressed on through Re:Mind's painfully slow retelling of the KH3 finale and unlocked Ultima Weapon so I'd have something decent to take on the Data Organization in the Limitcut Episode.
That was where the game truly started to shine for me. The Data Org are truly well-designed bosses that felt rewarding to learn and overcome, and decently challenging given my character level and the pro codes I had turned on. By the time I unlocked the final two Data Org bosses, I was feeling pretty pleased with the quality and I could only imagine how good Yozora must be if he's better than even the best Data Org fights (sidenote, my personal favorites are Dark Riku, Marluxia, Xemnas, and Master Xehanort).
Then I finally unlocked Yozora and I'm not exaggerating when I say I cried tears of joy upon seeing for the first time his stylish, wild moveset. This was THE boss I had started playing for, THE boss I'd been waiting for, THE thing that would push me to the absolute limit of my ability to play these games. What an incredible experience and an absolute joy it was to learn this fight to the point of a completion. I love how punishing Yozora is, while being a fair and learnable boss nonetheless. Nothing he ever did felt frustrating or unreasonable, even despite having the tendency to string a lot of moves together rapidly or having the longest DM of any Kingdom Hearts boss (at least in my recollection having played only the three numbered titles, and really mainly 2 over and over on critical/level 1). This fight took maybe 15 hours to beat over the course of a few days, with most of the difficulty being close to the beginning when I could barely live through a couple of Yozora's moves and even more rarely get my own attacks in.
I don't really know what else to say other than this is my new favorite boss in gaming, and I look forward to revisiting him many times over. That's all I got for now, happy holidays and hopefully this is fun to watch even though I'm not playing critical/level 1/all pro codes in this instance :)
