East 7 Kids Cafe
East 7 Kids Café is a ‘no barriers’ after school program located in the East End of Lexington. It’s a place where children, ages 4-18 years-old, come just to hang out with their friends and get a hot meal. E7 Kids Café’s mission is to increase the ability for children to succeed by engaging them in meaningful positive relationships and experiences.
The Program Director, Tanya Roohouse, loves working with the children at E7 Kids Café because they have given her ‘an experience unlike any other and provides different challenges daily.’ Roodhouse described E7 Kids Café’s atmosphere to be a ‘controlled chaos.’
“Kids have a ton of energy when they get out of school, we try to channel the energy into positive activities and play,” Roodhouse said.
An E7 Kid, Aspen, 11-years-old, said that E7 Kids Cafe is the best place she has ever been. The children do activities, including playing in Duncan Park, going swimming, doing homework and eating.
Aspen said, “I like it here because it is close to my home. I like it here because all my friends are here. I also like it here because you can play around. You get to eat. They help you with your homework. It’s a cool place to hang out when you come home from school.”
Volunteers are always looking forward to coming to E7 Kids Café because they make their day better. A volunteer, Arianna Smith, said, “I like the energy here. And I know if I am having a bad day they will put a smile on my face.”
