Remove annoying error sound in Windows 11. How to disable the error beep in Windows. Turn off annoying sound in Windows 10. Disable Windows sound when some operation is performed that is not possible. Windows unwanted loud bell sound. Turn off the Windows Terminal bell sound.
1. Press 🪟+R to open the Run Command dialog box
2. Type control mmsys.cpl and press Enter
3. Go to the 'Sounds' tab
4. Scroll to find 'Default Beep' under Windows section
5. Select it and change the Sound drop-down box to (None) (it's at the top of the list)
6. Bonus: you can also look for 'Asterix' and 'Exclamation' under Windows section and set them to None
(The original sound is 'Windows Background' if you ever want to get it back)
