I discuss a key challenge with web development and software development. The biggest challenge is not the software itself but having expectations that you cannot fulfill immediately. There is some much to do and things that you want to do, but you can’t do it immediately with software development.
A key challenge with software development is to build an audience first, before you build the software.
It’s easy to get mission creep when you develop some software as every knowledge product and feature bleeds into the next feature.
How do you design software? There are a couple of key things to keep software development in check, and to navigate key challenges to web development and software development:
1. Have someone that will give you a reality check with development. Being a software creator is a fun and challenging feat, but it requires someone to keep you inline and balanced.
2. Be ruthless with the idea. Try not to do develop anything unless it is really needed. Don't get carried away with different software projects. Keep it simple and small.
3. Keep pushing forward and have a long-term perspective. Know that this will eventually get done.

David Maslach is a research professor of entrepreneurship, innovation, and business strategy, I discuss topics, such as behavioral science, strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and apply these to my new peer proofreading and editing platform. Topics include the sharing economy, altruism, investing in technology, and bounded rationality. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements.
r3ciprocity.com: Peer proofreading and editing platform
A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money.
The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.
