Twined Wool Weaving: “Sky to Sea”
Exploration of photos and videos of my wool woven tapestry entitled Sky to Sea. The piece represents the ocean world of my home, and was done in wool with colours dyed all from natural material including buckthorn, onion, oak leaves, coreopsis flowers, several mushrooms, indigo and more. Many of the dyes were collected locally from the trees, shrubs, perennial flowers and mushrooms of home.
Note: many of my wall weavings heavily incorporate techniques from Indigenous Coast Salish weaving. This is done deliberately after many years of learning directly from mentors within the Coast Salish First Nations weaving community. I am not Coast Salish, nor is my work. I merely aim to weave in a Coast Salish style while also incorporating other techniques and themes from my life. This is the reason I do not sell, gift outside of my family, weave anything to be worn or teach this style.
