this is how you get your Android device to use text to speech allowing it to read any page out loud to you. to start off you're going to want to open up the Google Play store and search for something called Accessibility Suite. install this app — make sure it’s the one made by Google LLC. once it’s installed, open your phone’s settings, scroll down to Accessibility, then go to Installed Apps. from there, find the option called Select to Speak. toggle the switch on, and give it permission to view your screen so it can read content out loud. since this software is made by Google, it’s safe to allow access.

it will then show you shortcut options for how you want to activate the feature — pick whichever method works best for you. once that’s done, try it out. there are two main ways to use it:

if you’re in Google Chrome, just highlight the text you want and tap the three dots, then select “Read Aloud.”

if you’re using another app like Messages or Email, use your shortcut method to activate Select to Speak and tap on the text you want it to read.

when the shortcut is active, you can expand the menu and go into settings to adjust speed, voice type, or turn on options like reading text from images or in the background. I recommend enabling background reading for a smoother experience.
