Let me start off by saying that historically I've had a healthy dislike for Springfield handguns. I have owned a multitude of them over the years from the Springfield XD, XDs, and a few XDM Elites. I have never shot them well, and don't like the huge rear grip safety. Somewhere along the way, I abandoned the proverbial ship that was Springfield, and moved on to greener pastures. Over the years Springfield seemed to "just exist" , as other manufacturers were pushing the boundaries of creativity, and innovation. Then out of nowhere it seemed as though every red blooded American, including grandma wanted something that had never existed before: A small concealable pistol, with the round capacity of a full size gun. Now it's not like small concealable pistols didn't already exist, they've been around for as long as people have been making guns.
I'm not sure if it was Shield Arms who created the first "magical" magazine that held more ammo than was ever possible before (The Glock 48 Magazine), but it created a frenzy in the industry. I will be the first to tell you that I was EXTREMELY excited for this frenzy, as the industry needs "pushes" such as this to propel it continuously forward. Then out of nowhere like a red light camera ticket in your mailbox SIG released the 365 with the capacity of 10rds (10+1), with optional 12rd/15rd magazines. Either simultaneously, or around the same time, Springfield released the HELLCAT which featured the highest round capacity micro 9mm ever. The HELLCAT would push the boundaries to an impressive 13rd capacity with the pinky extension, or 11rds with the flush fit magazine. This brought a new kind of focus to magazine technology, and it would only advance from there. Both pistols were getting the attention they deserved, however both the 365 and HELLCAT were too small for my large size hands. And lets not forget that a small channel like this one has its own set of budget restrictions, lol. With that being said I reviewed some other not so well known firearms, that made great budget friendly options for the working class American.
In early 2021 SIG released the 365XL with a flush fit 12rd magazine. After enjoying the previous success of the HELLCAT, and not to be outdone in 2022 Springfield dropped the HELLCAT Pro with an ASTOUNDING 15rd flush fit magazine. Your read that correctly, 15 rounds. Now at this point, Springfield had my attention LOUD AND CLEAR. When you look at the gun, and then the magazine, your left scratching your head and asking "How is it possible?". At this point I knew that it was time to revisit Springfield, and discover what they had been up too since I had abandoned ship. Needless to say the results speak for themselves. Springfield went back to the drawing board and brought to the market something that would make the doubters do a double take, and new gun owners look at the HELLCAT pistol series as a serious contender for their hard earned money.
