Welcome to my Civil Duty Shakuhachi Series. It's clear that it's not work as usual these days. The climate dictates action. It has always been my philosophy to use my art as a hammer to shape society, to be be on the right side of history by taking actions to fight racial injustice. In the past, it's mostly been an Asian American struggle. Today, it's clearer than ever that we need to join in solidarity to unrig the system for African Americans. To paraphrase Yuri Kochiyama, "If Blacks are not free from institutionalized racism, systemic oppression, no one is." If you feel you've learned something from this video, please make a donation to a civil rights organization such as Black Lives Matter. Please do your research as there are many organizations you can support such as the NAACP, Southern Poverty Law Center etc.... To breathe freely is a human right. Not a privilege. Thank you for playing the shakuhachi, for watching and for being a part of the solution. - Perry
