Testing a new 3d plane model-based rig for lightsaber roto. The unstable saber (red) is the same roto pass as the stable one (blue) however an array of deform modifiers has been added as well as a normal applied matcap to create the broken laser stream effect. The masks are rendered via the viewport in OpenGL and then the mask passes are used to composite the final image in the VSE. This is different from the previous method in the "Kendo"video that I posted that used painted images and animations. This new method is 3D model based with better controls over perspective and tip/bass rounding of the sabers in the rotoscoping. Once I get this method cleaned up, I will post a blend file on Blendswap... and maybe a tutorial, if I get the time.
Green screen plate is also accomplished directly in the viewport (see "hacking the viewport" series for tutorial).
