The Dance of the Dragons is a historical event that occurred in the fictional universe of "A Song of Ice and Fire" created by author George R. R. Martin. It happened about 170 years before the events of the "Game of Thrones" series and was a civil war that broke out in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. The war was fought between two branches of House Targaryen: the Green party, led by Aegon II Targaryen, and the Black party, led by his older sister, Rhaenyra Targaryen. The war earned its name because of the use of dragons by both sides, and it was a bloody conflict that resulted in great destruction and the death of many important figures. The Dance of the Dragons had a great impact on the history of Westeros and was one of the most important events in the universe of "A Song of Ice and Fire".
