The White Revolution (1963-1979) was inspired by Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (1919-1980), the last Shah of Iran. Its ideas were generally welcomed in the West but looked dangerous to the powerful Iranian Shia Islamic clerics and the religious population. Although the program of reforms was needful to the country, the implementation methods were as controversial as the entire political system. Finally that caused the new, Islamic Revolution lead by Ayatollah Khomeini, the founding father of the contemporary Islamic Republic of Iran.
