The 0-Coast, our single voice patchable synthesizer, utilizes techniques from both the Moog and Buchla paradigms (aka “East Coast,” and “West Coast,” due to their locations), but is loyal to neither and thus implements “no coast synthesis.”

These sets of circuits allow for a massive range of sounds and textures, from the simple Triangle to a swirling harmonic mix of overtones. What's more, we designed the 0-Coast to operate with or without the use of patch cables. The necessary connections have been made from circuit to circuit so it operates as an expressive, musical MonoSynth. Using only the MIDI controller of your choice you could apply new timbres to your existing musical forms!

In this example, we have an arpeggio from the @arturia_official Keystep37 running from its MIDI out into the 0-Coast's MIDI input, controlling the synth's pitch and providing both MIDI clock to its Tempo circuit and a gate stream to its Contour generator.

To shape the sound, Contour is patched to the Balance CV input, adding a splash of harmonics with each envelope. Additionally, the Clock out is patched to the Slope Trig in, triggering a Slope function with each tick of the MIDI clock. This is normalled to the Multiply CV input, modulating the number of folds in the waveshaped signal.

The Slope CV output is also attenuated through the 0-Coast's Voltage Math section and patched to modulate Contour's Decay parameter. Finally, the 0-Coast's MIDI-B CV output (set to its LFO mode) is patched to modulate the Overtone parameter, adding further movement and variety to the harmonic nature of the output.

As with any modular synthesizer, this is just the beginning! The 0-Coast is happy to patch along with any module in your studio as an audio source, audio processor, voltage source or MIDI-to-CV converter!

Happy patching!
