Airport/Aviation Obstruction Lighting: Does Your Building Need One?
Tall buildings and structures pose a serious risk to airplanes and other aircraft while in flight and passing by. For this reason, building administrators must install aviation obstruction lighting (AOL) so pilots can detect obstacles in their path.
And these recommendations are based on Chapter 6 of Annex 14 of ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization latest edition) and are given for information only
Night only: Low-intensity red steady-burning every 45 meters around the perimeter of the building (for construction lower than 45 meters high). Additional Medium-intensity red flashing on the top for buildings higher than 45 meters;
Day and night: Medium-intensity dual white/red lighting for buildings over 45 meters; High-intensity white light for high-rise construction above 150 meters high.
