Why Was Shostakovich Denounced by the Soviet Government?
In the 1930s, Dmitri Shostakovich was denounced by the Soviet Government for being a "bourgeois" artist. In 1937, his 5th Symphony was advertised in the #Soviet Press as “A Soviet artist’s creative response to just criticism”....but was it?
