Let’s Play Ultima IX #97: Ever Feel Like You’ve Forgotten Something?
Remember when I said that the stygian abyss was one of the longest dungeons in the game? You can chalk that statement up to my memory playing tricks on me because it’s actually one of the smallest. The four elemental ‘wings’ of the dungeon are really compact and while the places you travel to via the teleporters look a lot larger, the amount of area you can move about in is rather small. That doesn’t mean this place isn’t difficult, however; we’re only having such an easy time of it because of our extremely good equipment and large pool of consumable resources.
Speaking of our equipment, we need only one more piece of blackrock armour to have the full set and that piece is here inside the abyss. Using the kite shield while wearing it provides you with full defence, ensuring that only the hardest hitting foes and spells will actually make a dent in your health. That there isn’t a blackrock shield is a shame, for it would’ve made us look even more awesome than we already are, though not as awesome as our gear at the start of Serpent Isle. If you ask me, that look was the pinnacle of fantastic and will never be topped, ever.
Where was I? Oh yes, blackrock leggings. The only thing that could go wrong in getting them is if they were in the first area before the elemental puzzles, for we can’t get back there no matter how hard we try. What are the odds of them being there though?
