Viktor Benev - Tribute to Roumen Toskov
Roumen Toskov is one of the most prominent Bulgarian pianists, composers and arrangers. To mine and the artistic world's regret, he is no longer with us, passing away at the beginning of the peak of his career. He left us some recordings with which he'll live on forever in the music history. I had the chance to see him live a few times in Sofia.
The reason for this tribute is that I recently read his autobiographical book and wanted to play a freely improvised song, thinking about him and the way he craftily mixed Bulgarian traditional music and modern jazz.
I hope the musicians who knew him will find a bit of him in this improvisation. And for the others that didn't, do search for him and listen to his creations, as he had an unrivaled finesse and taste about making music and we could still learn quite a lot from his recordings.
