How to contact tracing helps
Contact tracing is a method used to effectively control infectious disease outbreaks globally. It is based on identifying people that have been in close proximity to people that are infected, and then alerting them so they can be tested by the health care authority.
The app can trace people who come in close proximity to confirmed COVID-19 cases using Bluetooth technology. Both phones exchange anonymized IDs which are stored in encrypted form, on the ALHOSN app so Health Authorities can quickly contact people at risk and they can be retested.
How your QR code works
Your unique QR code that is refreshed every 2 minutes can be verified and scanned. This gives peace of mind that your health status and the status of those around you means you can safely interact with others in meetings and public places.

Who should use the ALHOSN app?
Everyone in the UAE should use the ALHOSN app. Currently, the ALHOSN app can be downloaded and installed by anyone in the UAE using a supported Bluetooth-enabled smartphone on Android or iOS.
The effectiveness of the app is based on nationwide use to ensure everyone is protected. Within a family or household, individuals that do not have phones can have their accounts associated with a caregiver’s account. Children, the elderly, and Persons of Determination should have accounts – everyone in the UAE must have an account.
Where can I download the app?
You can download the ALHOSN UAE app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store for free.
Register and authenticate by entering your Emirates ID and phone number followed by the OTP sent to your phone.
It is mandatory to turn on Bluetooth and push notifications on your smartphone.
How does ALHOSN use contact tracing to protect us?
ALHOSN uses an encrypted Secure Tracing Identifier (STI) that is exchanged locally on devices of individuals in proximity of one another. The STI consists of anonymized data and a timestamp. The anonymized STI is stored in encrypted form temporarily for 3 weeks on the phone. No personally identifiable information is collected throughout the entire process.
When an individual is known to be infected, they will be requested by the health authority to share the stored STI list on their phone. This list will provide the authorities with accurate information to reach out to possibly infected people and have them tested – this is the most effective way to stop the spread of the virus.
What is the ALHOSN COVID-19 health coding system?
The ALHOSN health coding system involves the generation of a unique personal QR code and a color-coding system that determines the status of your health. The colors represent the following:
Grey: indicates you have not been tested.
Green: indicates you have been tested and you are healthy, this grants you access to public places.Amber: indicates that you need to be tested or retested due to possible exposure to COVID-19.
Red: indicates your most recent test have shown that you are infected and must seek the advice of the health care authority.
Does ALHOSN require internet connection after installation?
An internet connection is required when you first install the ALHOSN app. Subsequently, ALHOSN will periodically require updates, internet connection is required for this process.
If your ALHOSN app has stopped working, you will also need to have internet connection to re-start the app.
