Physical chemistry lecture introducing the quantum harmonic oscillator. We introduce the general physical problem and discuss the form of the potential. The parabolic potential gives rise to energy levels that are uniform and evenly spaced. Additionally the Hamiltonian is introduced and the full time-independent Schrodinger equation is shown.
