I posted this song a while back, and it just didn't come together that well. So I did a retake, and it sounds a bit better. I always loved the song, "Ode To Billy Joe," so this is my own Southern Gothic mystery song. The mystery might seem obvious, but there is more than meets the eye. :)
Secrets From the Ridge
copyright 2009
Em A
I am just a poor girl
Em A
Destined for hell
Em A
And I live at the foot
C Am
Of the Appalacian trail
Em A
All the locals shun me
Em A
When I go into town
C Am
They say I killed you darlin'
C Em
But I know what went down
Prechorus and Chorus
C Am
And I walk this ridge
Am Em
All alone every night
C Am C Em
No, I'm not guilty of this crime
C Am
But your Mama meant
C Em
So much to you
C Am
Keeping her secret
C Am
Was all that I could do
Em A Em A
Secrets from the ridge
Em A
I never told a soul
C Am
But I know what your Mama did
Em
Through the window
A
I saw a hand
Em A
Shower sparks on an innocent man
C Am Em
Oh, secrets from, secrets from the ridge''
C Am Em
Oh, secrets from, secrets from the ridge
Em A
I went on trial
Em A
On a hot day in June
Em A
Jury set me free
Em A
For a case they couldn't prove
Em A
Sometimes late in the evening
Em A
When I wanna cry
C Am
The only thing that gets me through
C Em
Is seeing you on the other side
Em A
Two weeks ago
Em A
I saw your Mama at the county fair
Em A
She didn't look my way
Em A
But I know that she still stared
Em A
She holds the sheriff so tightly
Em A
Since your daddy passed away
C Am
Making sure she hides
C Em
What's already tucked away
