The floating island in the Aksakal hamlet of Hazarşah village in Solhan district of Bingöl province was discovered by the local people. The floating island was formed entirely by natural processes. The lake is a crater lake situated on flat land surrounded by mountains and hills on three sides. Its current area is over 300 m², and with reclamation, it could exceed 500 m².
The lake is known to be over 50 meters deep. A continuous current has been observed in the lake. Water entering from beneath the lake and through arches feeds a stream from below the lake. Small springs confirm this observation. The water level remains the same in both summer and winter. The water is fresh and clear, containing no mineral salts. Fish farming is possible.
There are three islands in the middle of the lake that are independent within the lake.
