A silent, immersive backpacking journey on the Outer Mountain Loop in Big Bend National Park.
This ASMR-style solo backpacking video documents a demanding 40-mile Outer Mountain Loop variant with roughly 8,800 feet of elevation gain, filmed mostly from a first-person POV. There is no talking—only ambient trail sounds layered with light music—designed for an immersive and uninterrupted wilderness experience.
The route begins in Chisos Basin, climbing the Pinnacles Trail to Emory Peak, then continuing across the East and South Rim to finish the first day high above the desert. The second day follows the East Rim before descending Juniper Canyon into the remote heat of the Dodson Trail, where camping requires careful water planning. Day three continues across the Dodson before the long climb up Blue Creek, and the final day ascends fully out of the desert, returning through Laguna Meadows to Chisos Basin.
Big Bend’s Outer Mountain Loop (OML) is one of the most challenging backpacking routes in Texas, combining high mountain terrain, exposed desert travel, and long waterless stretches. Even in December, temperatures can be hot in low elevations like the Dodson, making water management and pacing critical. The loop showcases the park’s dramatic contrasts—from cool rim views to rugged desert solitude.
