A rhino, a nude Jane changing the celluloid world, Burundi Beat plus Carl Hagenbeck Jr. … Tan LeRacoon is gathering this illustrous round to criticize the last centuries colonialism as well as cultural approbriation throughout the years of pop. And he won’t make the mistake of excluding his own doings.
More up to date than ever, and despite the obvious Hamburg connection, the lyrics treat a global subject. This is no jumping- on- a- bandwaggon as this song was meant to be part of a songcycle on last year’s album release „Funeral Parade Of Roses“ (Légère Recordings 2019). But a tight schedule prevented a satisfying result.
Therefore Tan went back to Malmo, Sweden to record it with Linus Lindvall (Golden Kanine, Cub & Wolf) and Mattias Larsson (Cub & Wolf). Another step musically, away from the manyheaded ensemble Soul ("A Punk Rock Van Morrison", Lars Brinkmann) towards a dark and merciless sound. We might hear the cities of Chicago and Bristol instead of New York and London, we hear Goth, Post Rock and yet it clearly is Tan LeRacoon. Loud and disturbing.
