FORMER STRATEGIC FACILITY / LOCATORS on Mount PINDA / Sakhalin
We finally visited those very same LOCATORS located on Mount Pinda, a 391-meter-high peak in the Dolinsk district.
The road to this place is unpaved and difficult for a car, as there are many climbs and washed-out areas.
In short, you should drive a car you're confident in.
At the very top, there's a beautiful view overlooking the Sea of Okhotsk and the town of Dolinsk itself. There are numerous clearings, the remains of the abandoned "locators" themselves, and old buildings where the facility's maintenance crews were stationed.
If you take a walk around this area, you can find many interesting finds from that time.
As for the trip itself, we were impressed by everything we saw on the way to and from the locators themselves.
I recommend everyone visit there, but be careful – bears can be found anywhere, and as for ticks – I don't think there are any there at all.
