Greens Member Jo Clay On Sustainable Business | Future Tribe
In this episode we talked to the founder of Send and Shred and elected Greens Member for Ginninderra, Jo Clay. Jo has a passion for environmental sustainability, small business sustainability, reducing carbon emissions and encouraging other businesses to adopt a sustainable business strategy. Send and Shred is an e-commerce sustainable business that allows companies to dispose of their sensitive documents in an environmentally friendly manner and ensure this waste does not end up in landfill. Naturally, this business idea was spurred on by Jo's passion for sustainability and sustainable business, which she discusses throughout the episode alongside the trials and tribulations of starting a niche online business. More specifically, Jo discusses why she chose a lean business model for her company as well as the financial viability of the recycling industry.
Jo Clay, elected Greens Member, is a lawyer, writer, artist and businesswoman. Jo is committed to urgent action on climate change. As a child, Jo was concerned about climate change but assumed that by the time she grew up someone would have fixed the problem. Unfortunately, this is not the case and so Jo has decided to do everything in her power to help find solutions with sustainable business practices and business sustainability.
On a personal level, Jo has started The Carbon Diet, working with her family to cut their household emissions. Not only did they cut their carbon footprint by 75%, but also had fun and now have a better, richer life from making a few simple changes. Jo's sustainability strategy can be easily replicated. Following her push for sustainable business practices and business sustainability, Jo set up a recycling company, with a sustainable business model and a focus on corporate sustainability, and discovered how the green and circular economy builds community while creating jobs and generating a profit.
Jo is involved in grass-roots movements including the Stop Adani campaign and the School Strike for Climate. She is inspired by the creativity and collaboration of people in these movements, including school students, 'Knitting Nanas' and everyone in between, who come together to face a problem that's bigger than any one of us.
