Happy Days Band - Irish Medley 2
Our members performed for us in March 2023 with an assortment of terrific Irish songs including a medley with "Luck of the Irish", "Danny Boy" and "Wearing of the Green" and then they played "Harrigan" and "Cockles and Mussels" (or "Molly Malone"). Members include Sharon Teeter on violin, Colette Ogata, Tseli Wu and Marcia Cullohan on accordion. Fabulous!
"The Luck of the Irish" is a song written by John Lennon and Yoko Ono that was first released on the couple's 1972 Plastic Ono Band album with Elephant's Memory, Some Time in New York City. (wiki)
The song "Danny Boy" written by English lawyer Fred Weatherly uses the Londonerry Air tune, with a set of lyrics written in the early 20th century. (wiki)
"The Wearing of the Green" is an Irish street ballad lamenting the repression of supporters of the Irish Rebellion of 1798. It is to an old Irish air, and many versions of the lyric exist, the best-known being by Dion Boucicault. (wiki)
"Harrigan" is a song written by George M. Cohan for the short-lived 1908 Broadway musical Fifty Miles from Boston when it was introduced by James C. Marlowe. (wiki)
"Molly Malone": While there are several versions of the song, James Yorkston wrote and composed the first published version in 1884. You may also know this Irish song by the names of “In Dublin's Fair City” or “Cockles and Mussels”. (wiki)
