YouTube Earnings Revealed Script | Income Report 2020
"Hey so in the video I’m going to share with you exactly how much money I’ve made in the past year with 30,000 subscribers. If you’re looking to start a channel or are just curious how much a YouTuber can make with 30k subs then you will get insight and a behind-the-scenes look at a small YouTubers analytics.
Good news! I don’t have anything to see you today! I’m also not going to encourage you to buy something that I wouldn’t use myself. Lots of YouTubers do anything they can to make money, including taking sponsorship deals and promoting affiliate links, but we’re not going to be discussing any of that in this video- we’re only going to cover making money from youtube ads through Google Adsense.
There are tons of videos that explain how much you can make, but a lot of those videos don’t cover the new monetization metric called RPM which Youtube introduced in July of 2020. The RPM metric shows how much the creator earned per 1,000 views. So any video that you’ve watched covering this topic before July of last year is pretty inaccurate because all of those videos discuss CPM which only shows what advertisers are paying, not what you’re actually earning. YouTubers only make about 50% of the CPM. Some YouTubers explain this well, others do not.
RPM is a better metric for YouTubers because it’s the actual revenue you earn. The RPM will go up and down depending on the type of content you make. For example, making videos on personal finance and investing typically gets a much higher rpm than someone making a vlog of themselves picking their nose.
In the past month, I have had an RPM of about $12 and a CPM of $22.25. In the past 90 days, my RPM is about $13-14 and CPM is almost $25. And for the past year, my RPM has been $11 and CPM has been about $20. This varies day today. One day I had an RPM of $66 and a CPM of $126. You can see there was a period of 3 days where all my ads were accidentally turned off- silly me.
My channel has generated $1,040.44 in ad revenue this past year and $3777.46 for the lifetime of the channel. In my opinion, this isn’t too bad since I just recently converted the content of this channel to finance and youtube is something I do for fun and is currently only a part-time thing. I run two other businesses, but I’m looking to consolidate, and if I can make youtube a full-time thing I would do it in a heartbeat because I see the potential.
My current goal is to continue providing value to you by uploading one video per week. Now, there are a lot of hours spent editing and creating videos, but it’s all worth it if I can help just one person change the trajectory of their life by helping them achieve financial freedom.
Now, if you’re thinking about starting a youtube channel yourself or are curious about the other expenses associated with starting a channel. When you get paid from Google Adsense, taxes are not taken out. As a YouTuber, you are considered self-employed. You would need to set aside money for whatever tax rate you are at. Every quarter you need to pay quarterly taxes and you can find the dates for that on the IRS website. I’m not a financial advertiser, this is just for your personal entertainment. So make sure you consult with an expert for tax advice.
A lot of people think having more subscribers means you’ll make more money and that’s actually not the case, again the most important metric is your RPM. and The way to increase your rpm is by creating content that advertisers want to promote.
