In this video, I Jason Salyer with ON Three wrap my survival tomahawk handle with paracord.
This is not for looks. It is a practical modification for real world use.
A properly done paracord wrap improves grip in wet, cold, or muddy conditions, protects the wood handle from wear and impact damage, and subtly shifts weight forward for better chopping efficiency. That small change matters when you are actually using the tool instead of displaying it.
Most people get this wrong.
They avoid paracord wrapping because they think it makes the handle bulky, slippery, or awkward. Others assume it is only decorative or that it gets in the way of proper grip. The problem is not the cord. The problem is how it is wrapped.
I show how I wrap a tomahawk handle in a way that keeps the profile slim, locks the cord in place, and maintains natural hand placement. When done correctly, the wrap adds control without compromising feel, balance, or precision.
I also explain why form follows function and why function often creates form. When a tool works well, it usually looks right. When something looks right, there is usually a reason behind it. That mindset applies to tools, gear, and skills that are meant to be used hard, not admired on a wall.
