Hexachordia for String Orchestra
Music is liquid architecture: Inspired by Iannis Xenakis’ drawings for Metastasis (1955) and architectural sketches for Le Corbusier, Hexachordia expands upon the concept of a constantly shifting tonal identity, with 6 chords at its foundation and the way they transfigure into each other forming the core principal of the track.
With 90 musicians (an ensemble of 30 recorded in 3 layers) independently bending away from each other in a giant symphonic organ, it was thrilling for me to try out a concept that couldn’t be demo’ed or expressed with any modern tools - something that could only work (or not work) as an expression from mind and paper to performance. For me, this fully captures the sense of drama and scale that I experience in the vast mountain scapes of the west.
