Permanency and job security are fundamentally important to United Voice members.

Insecure work, like fixed term contracts, not only impact our financial security, they impact our health and our wellbeing.

It was for this reason that United Voice members in schools fought for, and won, permanency.

Our legally binding Union Agreement states that Fixed Term contracts can only be used for very specific reasons such as backfilling for someone on leave. When a position is clear and vacant; EAs, AIEO, Home Economic Assistants, Cleaners and Gardeners should be employed permanently.

Unfortunately the Education Department and Schools are breaking these clear rules.

Hundreds of employees on fixed term contracts should be permanent.

This year United Voice members will be launching a campaign to win permanency and to stop any future abuse of fixed term contracts.
The first step in this campaign is research.

Union members are preparing a case to hold the Government and the Department accountable.

All staff on fixed term contracts need to complete the survey so United Voice members have the information to prepare a strong case.

If you know there are staff at your school on fixed term contracts speak to them and make sure they fill in the survey and send it back to your Union office.

All members and potential members should attend PQMs at their school to find out the latest information in the campaign. Now is the time for staff on fixed term contracts to join their Union to join you in fighting for permanency.

Thousands of Union members won permanency through strong, active membership.

Together we can make sure the rules we won are followed.
