However, Stewart's rendition of the accent didn't quite hit the mark, even in his own opinion. In a humorous anecdote, Stewart once likened his attempt to Inspector Clouseau's infamous accent from "The Pink Panther"!

The character's backstory was rewritten to explain that Picard spoke English due to the decline of the French language in the 24th century. In the later series "Star Trek: Picard," this explanation was revised to attribute Picard's English accent to his family's relocation to England during World War II.
