How to layout elongated tile backsplash in your kitchen.
In this video we want to show you our process for planning an elongated tile backsplash. We will start by identifying the focal point of the installation, determining our layout marks then we'll see how the tile fits those parameters. We will make any necessary adjustments so the final product turns out great.
The first step is to identify the focal point of the wall. In this case the focal point is the range hood location. This is where your eye will be drawn to the most and it's important that the tile have a nice aesthetic to it. We will start by finding the center of the focal point, then we'll see how the tile fits on that measurement. We want to avoid installing any tiles that are very small. We want the largest cuts possible for the installation. Larger cuts of tile look better than smaller cuts and it just takes a bit of planning for everything to come out correctly.
Once we determine the center of our focal point we then have to find the overall width of the installation in both directions. The same method for locating the edges applies here. If for some reason the tile doesn't fit the measurements as we would like, we will make the adjustments to the layout for installation. One thing to keep in mind for centering tile. Quarter tiles also work for centering. Tile doesn't have to be installed using only fulls and halves.
Be sure you also check the height of the upper cabinets as well. We do prefer to start with full tiles on the countertop, but we will cut them down if we have a very skinny tile at the top of the backsplash. We also need to remember to check the area behind the stove for level as well. You would be amazed to see the number of countertops that aren't level with each other on either side of the stove.
I hope you found this video helpful for your backsplash installation project. If you are in mid-Missouri area and you are in need of a tile setter, we would love to interview for your project.
