Saturday morning, there was a big gathering at Ala Moana Beach Park to say goodbye to “Uncle China” - the legendary Waikiki beachboy and surf contest organizer who died at 68.
It was a mix of emotions - tears, cheers, and laughter as China’s friends and family remembered him and scattered his ashes into the ocean. China was all about bringing people together for a good time, so it was fitting that everyone came down to celebrate his life. China was a true surfing ambassador and his annual longboard surf contests were super popular. The last one ran in 2017, but his ‘ohana wants to bring it back in his honor because it’s what made him happiest. Rest in peace, Uncle China - your aloha spirit lives on.
