For decades, some peoples of the North Caucasus have been trying to connect with the rich and majestic legacy of the warlike Alans, which, of course, has sparked long-standing debate and often even resulted in some tension between neighboring states. For example, a few years ago, a petition was even launched in Ingushetia to rename it Alania, which had the effect of exploding a bomb on certain peoples of the Caucasus.
Today, we decided to discuss one of the main claimants to the Alanian legacy—the Ossetians—and, in doing so, consider the validity of this claim.
