UYGHURS AND UZBEKS – WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES AND SIMILARITIES? @okasca_history
In Central Asia, if you don't know for sure who is an Uzbek and who is a Uyghur, it's very easy for an inexperienced person to confuse the two ethnic groups. Uzbeks and Uyghurs are closely related Turkic peoples with common historical roots and, for a time, shared a common state, the Chagatai Ulus. The abundance of similarities is simply astounding – a deep commitment to Sunni Islam, similar economic and everyday practices, national dress, entrepreneurial spirit in trade, and, of course, a rich cuisine.
Therefore, today the "Okastsa" project, together with our regular partner, the "EthnoMir" ethnocultural complex, decided to dedicate an issue to the similarities and differences between Uzbeks and Uyghurs.
