I failed to winterize my outboard engine - Will it run? Sitting for 6 months
Will it run? I intended to winterize this 2004 2.5 hp Mercury 2 stroke outboard engine last fall but I didn't do anything at all to store it for the winter. Will this little outboard motor start after sitting for 6 months? Will it start? Do I have the correct Mercury safety lanyard / kill switch lanyard? The emergency engine cut off safety switch lanyard has given me trouble since day one.
ECOS or engine cutoff switches are legally required on newer outboard engines and an important safety device for boaters - especially for people who are boating solo. But having the wrong one, or an engine safety lanyard that doesn't work right can be very frustrating and make us think there is something else wrong with the engine!
