Billy Strings - Northport, Michigan - January 24, 2015
January 24, 2015 - In the dead of winter in the far north of the Leleenaw Peninsula in Michigan's lower peninsula, it was cold and snowy outside, but you wouldn't know it from the energy inside.
Before Billy was a global sensation, he was just a local yokel playing small places like this little restaurant in Northport, Michigan in the dead of winter. The restaurant was normally closed for the winter, but opened up just for Billy to play this one-off gig. It was so small and packed that people were dancing in the breezeway and outside the windows.
I flew my mom up from Detroit to see Billy at this event because I knew he was going to blow up, so she needed to be able to say "I used to watch him in small bars".
Shortly after this video, Billy moved to Nashville and has been kicking ass ever since.
