Cultural expectations placed upon children since young can
cause immense pressure and mental health illnesses. However,
there is still a huge stigma towards mental illnesses in Asian
communities. I want to show that it is okay to not achieve a
certain definition of success and we should talk about mental
health openly in Asian communities.

I choose to use Augmented Reality (AR) as a secondary medium
to create a virtual space where the reality of mental health
implications caused by cultural expectations be exposed, which
is usually unseen and invisible. I also hope to increase Asian representation in new technologies and experiment on how AR can be used in an art exhibition setting.

"Unseen Expectations" was exhibited as part of Human Library exhibition organised by Australian Chinese New Art Society (ACNAS) & Asian Creative Network (ACN) in Sydney, Australia on 3rd February 2019.
