For diagnosing air conditioning problems in a Volkswagen, the built-in diagnostic menu is very convenient. The menu is available for many VAG vehicles, including Audi (Golf 5, VW Passat B6, and newer VAG vehicles).
To enter the engineering menu, press the AS (econ) button and, while holding it down, press the upper air intake.
When the air temperature is displayed on the left screen, the menu item number will be displayed. The value of the selected value will be displayed on the right temperature screen. To select a menu item, use the driver's side temperature control. The sub-item is selected using the central control (fan speed control). While the climate control menu is active, it operates in the mode it was in before entering the engineering menu. To exit the menu, press AC (econ).
