No Onshore Student Visa
Australia has introduced new rules impacting certain temporary visa holders seeking to apply for a Student visa while in the country. From July 1, 2024, Temporary Graduate, Visitor, and Maritime Crew visa holders will no longer be eligible to apply for a Student visa onshore. This change targets visa hopping and aims to prevent a trend of "permanently temporary" former international students in Australia. Those affected, such as Temporary Graduate (Subclass 485) and Visitor (Subclass 600) visa holders, are advised to consider leaving Australia or exploring alternative visa pathways. Visitor visa applicants intending to study will now have to apply for a Student visa from outside Australia. Genuine Student visa applicants can still pursue their studies in Australia by applying from offshore, provided they meet the necessary criteria.
