Our EarthRoamer gets a Synology NAS for secure data storage
We are finishing up prepping for full-time travel in the roamer and needed a solution for secure data storage. There are many ways to go for data storage and backup but I like the single NAS solution instead of multiple smaller drives that you have to label and hunt around for files. All your files are in one location that is just like working off your PC (or Mac) with a giant hard drive except it is fully redundant so your data is protected and is available as a personal cloud server for remote access. As long as our starlink is online…the data is accessible from anywhere. It is a very scaleable solution that can be upgraded for increased storage by simply buying higher capacity drives and swapping the drives into the bays one at a time and letting the NAS copy over the data. No messy temporary storage locations, operating system installs or even drive formatting…the NAS takes care of all that for you. The Synology NAS can be accessed and managed from apps on your iOS or Android device. The AC power requirement isn’t really an issue because you don’t need it powered if your not actively using it.
