POLICE HISTORY FROM THE MAJAPAHIT PERIOD
During the Majapahit Empire, Prime Minister Gajah Mada formed a security force called the Bhayangkara, tasked with protecting the king and the kingdom.
The face of the Gajah Mada statue in front of the National Police Headquarters is that of Commissioner General (Ret.) M. Jasin.
The Gajah Mada statue was built at the National Police Headquarters in 1959 on the orders of General RS Soekanto, Indonesia's first Chief of Police. The Gajah Mada statue project was carried out by the Head of Community Movement Supervision, Senior Commissioner R. Umargatab.
Ahead of the inauguration on July 1, 1959, Senior Commissioner Umargatab encountered difficulties in creating the statue's face because he didn't know what Gajah Mada looked like. He ultimately requested a photo of the Commander of the Indonesian Mobile Brigade Corps, Commissioner General (Ret.) M. Jasin, to serve as an example of the Gajah Mada statue's face.
After the statue was completed, Umargatab and the sculptors received congratulations from General Soekanto for their achievement in completing the statue on time.
