Hardest part of any project for an mid-level manager or engineer? Asking the boss for money! How do I get Budget & Resources?!?!
When I speak at conferences, I get a lot of feedback & questions around the same topic.
📛 How do I get my boss to agree to this cool tech?
📛 How do I convince my boss to give us budget?
📛 How do I get the time or resources allocated to this project?
📛 What do I have to do to get them to support me?
Great questions. And an important part of every project. Successful projects that I've sold up to management and ones I've helped customers sell up to management typically involved some core strategic actions. And I'll share them with you in this video!
How to have a conversation with the boss about budget & resources:
✅Setup a short in-person meeting, not an long detailed email.
✅Have a reach ask and a core ask and be ready to negotiate on these.
✅Discuss multiple solutions to this problem and your plan for how they would be implemented.
✅Show how this project directly links to the company objectives and solves core problems.
What are your tactics or strategies for winning your company management over and getting projects approved? Would love to hear them in the comments.
Until next time, ask yourself:
