Free energy functions and their significance:- maximum useful work, spontaneity of a process
Gibb's free energy G and Helmholtz free energy or work function A are two state functions, which can be helpful in predicting spontaneity of processes. These are discusses in detail with suitable mathematical treatment and explained how they are related to total entropy change in a process. Also these functions can be used to know the maximum useful work that can be obtained in a process.
