From Teacher to Vintner: The Legacy of "Rives du Bisse"
Nestled in the Valais region, amid landscapes shaped by water, "Rives du Bisse" weaves a tale of family passion for winemaking—a narrative not just of wine, but of heritage, innovation, and a deep connection to the land.
The Beginning: A Teacher's Vision
It was 1945, a time for rebuilding, when Gaby Delaloye, an educator, laid the foundation of what would become a symbol of viticultural excellence in Valais. "Rives du Bisse" started as Gaby's humble venture, soon blossoming beyond his teaching career into a full-fledged wine production.
Generational Wisdom
Gaby's legacy was enriched by subsequent generations. In 1963, his son Jean-Pierre and later, in 1990, his grandson Jean-Gaby, took up the mantle, embedding family ethos further into the business and introducing innovation and restructuring.
A New Era
Transforming into a corporation in 1994, "Rives du Bisse" remained a family-owned enterprise, marking a phase of expansion. The entry of the third and fourth generations in 2015 brought fresh ideas and visions, symbolizing a renaissance for the brand with new identity, team, and wine ranges.
Why "Rives du Bisse"?
Named after the Valaisan heritage and the ancient water channels (bisses), "Rives du Bisse" honors the struggle to harness water, rooting its identity along the sunny banks of the Bisse d'Ardon, embodying the spirit of Valais.
The Vineyard and Carnotzet
Spanning 11 hectares with a commitment to sustainable practices, the family vineyard under Jean-Gabriel Delaloye produces high-quality wines from indigenous and traditional grape varieties. The carnotzet, evolved from a wine storage cellar into a cozy gathering place, symbolizes the brand's hospitality.
